Outfit Post 6: Exams in 11 Days

I have exams in 11 days! Which is super terrifying considering how much they are worth for my total grade. Doing some late night shopping I went on Trademe (NZ version of eBay) to see if I could grab any bargains. I bought this Stolen Girlfriends Club skirt which is the current season and at a huge bargain from the regular price. I am always hesitant to get anything from Trademe (only because I can't see the product and also because I don't know who I'm buying from) but the trader was super friendly and mailed it so quickly. She also packed it neatly in a cute 'The Department Store' bag which was a Where's Wally style (first pic!).

I love the high slits in the skirt and how form fitting it is, it accentuates my figure and then gracefully falls down. It's also really edgy and tough looking with the thick zips and grungy but has such a classic silhouette.

I am honestly losing my mind studying, I am like strung out on < 3 hours sleep for the last 3 nights and it is driving me insane. That + no internet (my sister watched The Voice too compulsively omg) made me super anxious and so it was nice to wind down a little (even though I really shouldn't be) today.

Due to the long weekend I got some more stuff yesterday and that I really shouldn't have (RUBY was having a sale!) and I preordered stuff like 2 weeks ago that I'm waiting to arrive in stock. But after this I can't spend anymore, and going to give my credit card to a third party ):

Good luck for your semester exams (if you have any?), treat yourself with love, eat lots of fruit and stay golden y'aaaaalllllll.

P.S. Don't ask me why I am carrying succulents I just know they look cute and they are my favourite plant (or group of plants) (after cacti and sunflowers)

Outfit Post 5: I Want to be Circa 90s Drew Barrymore

Something I wore to my friend Joycelyn's 18th birthday! It was a really cute night where I caught up with everyone despite just bumming and home or studying and it was really nice. I saw a lot of my friends from high school that I didn't see much of. It's kinda sad that I can't see their lovely faces that often, and I guess it doesn't help that we pretty much all pursued different bachelors, so it was really sweet to catch up. I wore the loose pants with a nice structured top and it looked very formed and architectural but still cohesive. There were cute little balloons (stuck to the ceiling with tape!) and mini pies (mini pie consumption count = 12)

Current obsession : Loose fit pants with prints, I don't really have great legs for pants but these daisy print pants are too cute to resist. In a weird way I feel very Drew Barrymore in the 90s when I wear it (Drew Barrymore IS the 90s man)

Here's some Drew Barrymore love, stay golden.

Outfit Post 3: Frida

My friend Chelsea reminded me that I haven't been blogging for a WEEK. Which is kinda crazy because I have an test on Monday (15% this one) and blogging is my procrastination. Again, the number of times I blog kinda depends on the weather and in amongst days of extreme cold (I think I have frostbite...)  TODAY HAS GLORIOUS WEATHER which was kinda perfect for photographing.

Becoming the demographic

I've never really felt welcome inside retail stores, despite the 'customer comes first because they have the money' policy that I assume many stores have. I've never really had a problem with this (aside from feeling slight anxiety and judgement but nothing too major) as I assumed that they'd had a long day working in a store, and wouldn't want to deal with outfit choices of a tiny Korean girl that was way to small to fit a lot of their clothes, or didn't have much spunk nor vision. I just simply wasn't their key demographic really. This spanned through my preteen and teens, where I grew slightly taller (slightly), and kept an eye for things that I found interesting, and started to build upon my wardrobe. (mostly crazy things that nobody else had because we're only young once #yolo).

Now that I've started uni and I've completely been consumed by this drive to be unique (no regrets with rainbow flatforms, fluro tunics and cropped turtlenecks) It seems as though somewhere, well actually, more like sometimes I get something right. A t-shirt, a skirt, a necklace (+ friendliness too to be honest). And store owners are slowly warming to me. I'm not saying they are bad at their jobs, or they're ice queens à la  Narnia, just that I've changed (from the exterior). I was still this little Korean girl but now one with supposed spunk and vision and audacity. Slowly, I'd become part of this demographic that retail stores target, of the intrepid and interesting girls that wear their clothes (which are conveniently the ages of 18-21). From this I've noticed the shopkeepers have began to make conversation 'I like your skirt! I haven't really seen it in stores?' as well as be more willing to help me out (I'm looking at you, high end stores).

Although I've noticed this natural transgression into this what feels like lapping waves of friendliness I don't really know how to feel about it except this; people make snap judgments. To be honest I guess I am a more friendlier person, and less shy, and slightly less anxious, but in all, my inner disposition is the same little Korean girl, but in our current society, the way you're is dealt with will be their first impression of you. From this, clothes can play a large factor, especially in an industry where aesthetically pleasing is good, no matter what the person's personality is like. I guess from I'd like to say that I kinda learnt something; everyone will be at a point in their lives where they're figuring things out, or don't feel confident, but I shouldn't judge people by what they look like, or what they wear. They shouldn't have to become my demographic for me to see who they are as a person, or want to see and I've discovered that most people are pretty cool too if you give them a chance. And to sum it all off in the eloquent words of Leo Tolstoy; 'It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness'.

This is me

pants: stolen girlfriends club - zip riding pant in tweed, shoes: STYLENANDA, lips: free elizabeth arden lippy my friend gave me! (love you chels!), top: found in my wardrobe

THIS IS ME.
I live in New Zealanddddd and I am Koreannnnnn
I decided I might as well post a picture up of myself.
omg #regret

Anyway, my pants by NZ brand Stolen Girlfriends Club arrived as well as my shoes that I ordered from STYLENANDA. I actually planned to return these pants, because they were pre-ordered and expected to arrive in March, but then didn't ACTUALLY arrive until today... And then during the time of March began to regret my decisions and then had delirious visions of guilt because of the cost (it was pretty much the tell-tale heart but I hadn't murdered anyone) and then emailed the website the next day saying although it hadn't arrived, I wanted a refund, (wow I am a bad customer.) but they never replied. I wasn't very pushy (I'm a passive person at heart) and then they arrived. And they are beautifuuuuuuuuuul.

The material is really nice they're really thick and warm and the tweed is very soft and comfortable. I love how it's quite high waisted and elongates my body (I am actually very tiny) and arghhhhh it's so form fitting and actually looks really cool.

But then regret again man, I went and splurged with this purchase argh but it's too late now to return it right? RIGHT? ...

(Side note: It's very tragic how Roger Ebert passed away yesterday. He was the first critic that I started reading his essays of, and his writing was very poignant, critical and beautiful. In a weird way he's influenced me a lot, and it's truly disheartening to hear this news ): )

I'm gonna pop some tags

As you can tell with the title I WENT THRIFT SHOPPING TODAY! I haven't gone in so long I was itching for some thrifting. I had an idea for things that I wanted, I'm a sucker for prints and textures. And I wanted to be inspired in the way I dressed. Some inspiration that I thought about when I was thrifting was Cher from CluelessEnid from Ghost World, Frida Kahlo, Penny Lane from Almost Famous and Jessa from Girls.  all of which I am obsessed with and which I could real life body swap. I bought quite a bit of new stuff (some of which I adore to death) and I guess I'll list the reasons why I love thrifting so much

  1. I can go completely crazy. Releasing me into a thrift store is like a kid in a candy store. I go completely insane and I pile my clothes into a trolley of which I try EVERYTHING on and then eliminate. I guess with thrifting I love it because everything is soooo cheap. And as a byproduct of that I have more license to try on things that I would never even consider getting full price! Like today, I got a nana cardigan with this interesting texture as well as a plaid child's vest!
  2. There is so much range. The thrift store that I frequent isn't one of those hipster stores where the store is actually selling the clothes at almost what would be retail price, it's a huge warehouse of donated and old clothes. It is simply massive. Therefore it's like a needle in a haystack you have to really be open to getting anything, and although there is A LOT  to get through, once I find something I love about something I will get it, and give it a good home.
  3. DIY. Okay I haven't done this this visit, but usually when I go thrifting I look at things that I could use to DIY. Thrifting is good that way, because you could create something amazing, or if all goes wrong you can safely tuck it away without it ever leaving a hole in your wallet. Previously I've fashioned numerous shirt dresses from old men's shirts- of which one as an earthy Aztec print ahhh one of my better DIYs. I've always been attracted to DIY when I was about 12 I heard that tights with ladders were 'in' and so I ripped up some tights and wore them with pride. Sadly I just looked like I needed new tights more that being super savvy high end fashion model.
  4. Guilt-free. As thrift shopping gets more commonplace (and currently is considered 'cool' instead of embarrassing) it's a great alternative to regular chain stores as well as really discovering what you like. It's cheap, it's fun, and really it's quite satisfying. You're giving old clothes a new home, and paying not much for it either. Wooooooooo!
I think I've expressed thoroughly why I love thrifting and may or may not show my haul later. Anyway talking about Thrift stores, isn't this the greatest cover of 'Thrift Shop' ever???

First

I guess this is a new step. And a new blog to replace the old one that I barely blogged at. I don't know why I suddenly felt an impulse to write this, I guess I just need some direction or some place to express myself. Something I can control when I feel that I'm losing it all.

Got the Lonely Hearts tee, I'm completely obsessed with it. The graphic is designed by a NZ tattooist. Got the comedy issue of Vanity Fair and also been obsessed with it, because I love Judd Apatow and also there was a spread on Freaks and Geeks (it provided the freshest and a realistic view on teenage life) as well as some a pic of my RUBY package and my wardrobe with all it's textures and prints. Whee. Here's to a good year hopefully.
